Do you have a novel idea for a digital capability but aren’t sure how to execute it? Do you have skills you want to “level up” or bring to the table, but don’t currently have a path to execute? Hangar 18 is ready to “beam you up”! We are a new software factory tackling complex digital problems by rapidly aligning the right talent and tools. We are currently seeking S&T explorers to join us on our mission to accelerate Digital Engineering and Transformation!
Duties
At its core, Hangar 18 develops and deploys software and data. Developers are the backbone of our capacity to deliver new capabilities. A senior-level software engineer will be primarily responsible for developing or implementing source code for use in a variety of client- and server-based environments. Secondary duties involve designing and discovering new technology solutions, while interacting with the primary design and discovery functions to arrive at an agreed upon development strategy. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance and input to junior-level developers, and assisting the lead developer with implementation and configuration activities. A senior-level developer should be an independent and self-starting contributor, able to work for extended periods (a week or longer) without regular guidance from other functions. A senior-level developer should also understand and work efficiently within a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Duties
One of the most critical parts of any technology development effort is understanding the existing domain and all of the components and relationships therein. This may include users, systems, materials, policies, along with many other factors. However, at the top of this list is the end user. Without getting users to adopt and use a solution, the project will never be successful. A UCD resource will serve two primary functions; first, to observe, elicit, and characterize user-centered requirements within a variety of existing and notional research, engineering, and business units, and second, to design software capabilities around these same requirements, developing personas, journey maps, user experience maps, empathy maps, and other key artifacts. A UCD team member should be an independent and self-starting contributor, able to work for extended periods (a week or longer) without regular guidance from other functions. A UCD team member should also understand and work efficiently within a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Finally, IT is an ever-changing domain, so the team member must be able to master new techniques and technologies and apply them wherever applicable.
